No.71 (William Byrd) "Care for thy sowle"

This song is included in "Psalmes, Sonnets and Songs" as one of the Songs of sadness and piety. All parts have lyrics, but Dow has only one main part with lyrics, which is the same as previous examples. Incidentally, I have assigned this voice part to soprano 2, but in practice it is better to use alto.

bar1-12 : Care for thy sowle as thing of greatest price,
made to the ende to taste of power devine,

bar12-20 : devoide of guile, abhorring synn & vice,
apt by gods grace to vertu to enclyne.

bar20-28, 28-36 : Care for it so, as by thy rechles train,
it be not brought to tast eternall payn.
