5つの成功のカギ
サッカーワールドカップが終わり既に3か月が経ちましたが、クロアチアがいかにして銀メダルを取ったのか、その成功のカギを聞かれる事があります。クロアチアは人口4百万人の小さな国です。そんな小さな国が、他の大国よりも良い結果を出すことができたのでしょうか。更に付け加えるとしたら、今回のメダルは、2個めでした。5回前のワールドカップ（フランス）で銅メダルを取りました。
私が考える5つの成功のカギを書き出してみます。
1）有能なチーム
有能選手が多い年代でした。選手達は、ヨーロッパの強豪クラブチームで重要な役目を担うプレーヤー達です。クロアチアのミッドフィルダーは今回のワールドカップで一番だとも言われてました。モドリッチは、リアルマドリッドでの重要な選手、ラキティッチはFCバルセロア、マンジュキッチはユベントスFCのフォーワード、ペリシッチは、インターミランの重要な選手、ロヴレンはリバプールFCの重要なディフェンダー、スバシッチはASモナコの大黒柱です。
2）システム
クロアチアは、小さな国ですが全ての村にはクラブチームとサッカー場があります。日本の様に部活動はなく、子供達は、クラブに入りプロのコーチの下でスポーツを習います。そこの村のクラブでは物足りなくなるほど上達してくると、次に、自分自身を鍛えるためにも更に選手層が厚い大きいクラブに加入します。そうする事で19歳になる頃には、プレミアで戦える程の才能を持った青年が集まる国内屈指の4－5個の大きなクラブに所属する結果につながります。プレミアで物足りなくなってきた選手は、次は更に才能を伸ばすために潤っているヨーロッパのクラブに所属します。ここで大事な点は、常に自分より上のレベルの選手に囲まれる事で、彼らに追いつこうとし努力をする事です。
3）アンダードッグ
スター選手が多く所属するチームでしたが、自信過剰さや傲慢な態度など一切見せる選手はいませんでした。むしろ正反対だったと思います。選手達は謙虚さと相手を尊重する気持ちを持ち備えていました。結果を導くには、彼らの持ち合わせている才能だけではなく、努力、準備、謙虚さが必要なことを選手達は知っていました。スポーツの世界だと、強者より弱者のほうが楽です。ドイツ、ブラジル、アルゼンチン、イングランドなど強豪チームは勝たないといけないプレッシャーがあります。ファン、報道陣、その他世界中の人達から、最低でもセミファイナルに進む事を期待されてます。これは、負ける事に対しての恐れを生み出し、（メンタル的に）危険な状況下に置かれます。クロアチアは、小さい国だったので、そういった期待もまったくなく自由に試合に臨む事が出来ました
4）チームの絆
チームが成功するかどうかは、チームの絆が非常に大きなカギを握ります。クロアチアナショナルチームの絆は非常に強力でした。なぜなら、すべての選手がお互いに対等であったからです。全員が平等。上下関係もなし。そう言った事もありチーム内には安心感がありました。
自分勝手（自己本位）な選手もいませんでした。実は、自分勝手な選手がいましたが、ワールドカップ開催1週間前に監督によって解雇されました。その監督ですが、チーム内で一番謙虚です。古い気質の監督といえば、選手批判をし選手に有無を言わせない様な態度が主流でしたが、現代の選手にはそのような事をしていても無意味です。特に、チーム内にビックスターがいるような場合。この監督（クロアチアナショナルチームの）は選手の話に耳を傾け、選手達を尊重してました。選手達は監督が共感心と知識を持ち合わせている人だった事もあり、監督を認めていました。私自信この監督とは、同じ町出身なので色々詳しく知ってます。
チームの絆がなぜ強いかというと、ファンのサポートも重要な役割を担ってました。クロアチア人はサッカーが大好きで、一番人気のあるスポーツです。ワールドカップ終了後、ファン50万人がザグレブに集まり選手を称えました。50万人は総人口の10％以上です。ナショナルチームにとっての勝利は、彼ら自身のため、国民全体のためと大きな目的がありました
5）背番号10番の選手
ルカ・モドリッチとは。ワールドカップのMVP受賞、欧州最優秀選手賞とおそらくゴールデンボール受賞（メッシとクリスティアーノ・ロナウドが近年独占）近年では、ベストミッドフィルダー。パスの成功率は非常に高いです。走行距離、ディフェンスでの貢献度は抜群です。ナショナルチームのキャプテンも務めていますが、非常に物静かです。言葉ではなく、態度でチームを引っ張るリーダーです。チームが困難な状況にいる時は、選手達はモドリッチにさえパスしておけば、彼が何とかしてくれる事を知ってました。彼の謙虚さは幼少期の戦争難民体験からきています
ワールドカップが終わり数か月経った今、ナショナルチームを離れる選手もいます。だけども、システムは存続し、新しい若手の選手が入ってきます。また、同じような成功を収める事は難しいけども、クロアチアサッカー界の未来には恐れは一切ありません
Five reasons that explain their success
How many such a small country of only 4 million people make better result then much richer and bigger nations. It's also second medal for Croatia in last 5 World Cups (in France they won bronze).
Here are the 5 keys to success from my point of view:
1) It's a good team
They play important roles in some of the best European clubs. Croatian midfield was on of the best off all teams in World Cup. Modric is one of the key players in Real Madrid, Rakitic same in FC Barcelona, Mandzukic is important attacker in Juventus FC, Perisic one of the leaders in Inter Milan, Lovren key defender in Liverpool FC, Subasic irreplaceable goalkeeper in AS Monaco etc.
2) There is system
Youth sport is not a part of schools like in Japan. Kids train in clubs usually with professional coaches. When a kid errors too good for a village club, he moves Eventually he ends up in one of the 4-5 big clubs where the most talented kids play and gets a chance to play in a premier division by the age of 19. If he caused too good for a premier division he is being sold to one of the rich European clubs where he can definately develop it's potential. The point is to be always surrounded by players effort to catch up.
3) Underdog position
Generally in sports it is much ___ ___ ___ 0 ___ ___ __ 2 ___ ___ 0 Fans, journalists and the whole world expectations you to reach at least semi- finals. It puts you in a dangerous position because fear of failure appears. Being a small country gives a freedom playing without big public expectations.
4) Team chemistry
They are all equal. They are all equal. Nobody above the team. They feel safe inside No big egos. Actually there was one player with big ego but the coach kicked him out of the team one week before World Cup. And speaking of a coach - he was one of the most humble people in the team. With new generation of players. With new work of aymore. Especially when you have big stars in a team. This coach listened to their players a lot , he presented a great deal of respect for them. Players approved him because of his empathy and knowledge.I know a lot about his background because he lives in the same town where I come from.
After the World Cup 500,000 fans gathered in Zagreb to welcome the team. That is more then 10% of the whole country. country population. The team had a big purpose to win the World Cup for themselves and for the whole nation.
5) Player with jersey number # 10
Luca Modric. World Cup MVP, this year best European soccer player and most probably Golden Ball winner (after years on Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo domination). Currently the best midfielder in the world. His pass success percentage is crazy good. When was a captain of the national team but he is a very silent leader. Whenever team is in trouble, players knew that have to just pass a His humbleness has roots in his childhood when he was a war refugee.
But months after the World Cup some player said goodbye to a national team. New young players are coming and while it's going to be hard to repeat this years success, there is no fear the future of Croatian soccer.
