I have been taking this medication for mild-sever acne. I've only been using it for 1 week and i've noticed a very positive change in my skin. No new pimples or painful cytsts. As everyone else has mentioned do not take this med on an empty stomach. I almost puked on the train to work lol. Doxycycline is a member of the tetracycline antibiotics group, and is commonly used to treat a variety of infections. Doxycycline is a semisynthetic tetracycline invented and clinically developed in the early 1960s by Pfizer Inc. and marketed under the brand name Vibramycin. Vibramycin received US Food and Drug Administration approval in 1967. Other brand names include Monodox, Microdox, Periostat, Vibra-Tabs, Oracea, Doryx, Vibrox, Adoxa, Doxyhexal, Doxylin, Doxoral, Doxy-1 and Atridox (topical doxycycline hyclate for periodontitis). The medication should be taken with plenty of water while standing or sitting upright to reduce the risk of injury to the esophagus. This medication should not be taken with antacids or iron preparations, as these may interfere with its effectiveness. Currently, I have been on this for one month. It seems to be working some, my acne isn't as painful or extreme but it is still there, my doctor did say to take it for at least six weeks before we review the results. Some side effects I have expirenced include: nausea if I don't eat something beforehand, and extreme itching on my face as well some sun sensitivity.
