Today's call: Competition called OFF for the day
Conditions: 3 - 4 foot (1 metre)

TAVARUA, Fiji (Monday, June 13, 2016) – A sixth consecutive lay day has been called at the Fiji Pro today, stop No. 5 of 11 on the 2016 Samsung Galaxy WSL Championship Tour, with only small surf on offer at Cloudbreak and a projected swell due to arrive later this week.

“There are a few small waves left over out there,” said WSL Commissioner Kieren Perrow. “There was a little swell this weekend but it was shredded from the onshore wind so wasn't really good enough. This morning again it's super clean but there's just not enough to get underway so we'll be off for the day.”

Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning at 6:30 am to assess the conditions and make the next call.

When competition resumes first to take to the water will be 2014 event winner Gabriel Medina (BRA) against Matt Banting (AUS) in the opening heat of Round 3.

Matt Wilkinson (AUS), current World No. 1 on the Jeep Leaderboard, will go head-to-head against Alejo Muniz (BRA) in Round 3 Heat 12.

Heat 4 will see an intense clash between CT heavyweights Jordy Smith (ZAF) and 11-time WSL Champion Kelly Slater (USA).

Three-time WSL Champion Mick Fanning (AUS) will surf against Adam Melling (AUS) in Round 3 Heat 9 and Taj Burrow (AUS), 18-year CT veteran, will face John John Florence (HAW) in Heat 10.

The Surfline forecast is calling for:

A small mix of mid and shorter period SW swell will continue Monday and offer rather jumbled surf at Cloudbreak. The surf will bump up a bit on Tuesday as new, mid period SW swell fills in. Much larger surf prevails for the middle to second half of the week: medium size SW swell Wed/Thur, with potential for solid swell on Friday.

The Fiji Pro will be webcast LIVE on as well as the WSL app.

The event is also being carried by the WSL’s LIVE broadcast partners Fox Sports Australia, CBS Sports in the United States, ESPN Brasil, Globosat, Edgesport, Sky NZ, Sport TV, Canal + Deportes, Channel Nine, MCS, Starhub, and Oceanic Time Warner Cable 250 & 1250 in Hawaii.
