22 sanctions including high-ranking Myanmar officials, targeting military support companies

 

The US government announced on the 2nd that it will designate 22 new Myanmar ministers and senior officials as sanctions.

 

Following the February coup and subsequent crackdowns on democrats and ethnic minorities, assets in the United States will be frozen and transactions with Americans will be banned in principle.

 

According to the Ministry of Finance, sanctions include seven senior officials, including members of the Armed Forces' highest decision-making body, the Commander-in-Chief Council (SAC), Aung Naing Oo, investment and foreign economic ministers, and other ministers. Mrs. Min Aung Hlaing, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, who has already been sanctioned. Separately, the Ministry of Commerce has added four companies to the list of export bans on US products and technologies, including King Royal Technologies, a satellite communications company that supports the Myanmar Armed Forces, and Manbao Mining, a copper mine development company.

 

Secretary of State Antony Blinken reiterated the sanctions: "The United States will continue to pay the price until the (Myanmar) army and its leadership change course and return to democracy." .. He expressed his determination to continue to put pressure on the Armed Forces and SAC.
