The other day, I heard the coolest Japanese word--rimuru. There are a lot of Japanese words like this these days, don't you think? For example, nabiru (to use GPS), panikuru (to panic), takuru (to take a taxi), and stanbaru (to be on standby.) Anyways, all you have to do is take some loanword, stick the verb ending -ru on the end, and voila!! You have a new Japanese word! Pretty cool.
リムるに戻ろう。聞いたことがある？私が住んでいる田舎町の友達はあまり知らんかったけど、都会の東京に行ったら、みんな聞いたことがあった。さすがしゃれとう東京なんだ。「リムる」の意味は、SNSのフォローをやめること、友達リストから外すことだ。たまにしたくなるやろう？特にアメリカでは、リムることが多い。例えば、うざい投稿をしたり、失礼なことをたくさん言ったりする人がいる。その人の投稿を我慢ができんくなるけん、フォローをやめる。英語では、SNSによって言い方が変わってくる。例えば、フェイスブックではunfriendというけど、インスタやツィッターではunfollowという。フェイスブックより、ツイッターで「リムる」は使われているようです。もう一つの言い方は「リムーブ」です。
So, let's get back to rimuru. Have you ever heard this word? Not many of my friends in my country town have, but when I went to Tokyo, I found that most people had heard it. Yeah, that is fashionable Tokyo for you. The meaning of rimuru to to unfriend or unfollow someone on social media. I think all people want to do this at times, right? It is particularly common in America. Imagine you have a friend who constantly writes rude or insenstive comments. If those posts continue and you can't stand it anymore, you may end up getting rid of them. On Facebook, you would say "unfriend." On Instragram or Twitter, you would say, "unfollow." It seems, though, that rimuru is used more to refer to Twitter and "unfollow" than on Facebook. Another way to say the say thing is to use the katakana word rimuubu (remove.)

Twitterやインスタは「フォロー」や「フォロワー」という。
