Subject:Thank you.
Hi Lisa. Thank you for visiting our winery yesterday. It was inspiring to see you working so energetically in the wine industry. We're very happy to receive a positive offer from WCS. Many of the recent offers from major trading companies have been profit driven and I feel that a company with a strong philosophy like yours is a good match for us.

Please allow me to commet on your contract tamplate.
Paymant terms: a letter of credit is not necessary.
Trade terms: I was wonderign if you could cover the freight and insurance costs

We're just now breaking even. So it would be very helpful if you could do so.

As for the number of bottles, please wait while we work out the details.

Regards,
Nicole

ーーー

Hi Nicole. We're the ones who should be thanking you. We all share your passion for wine and your business philosophy. We've now reviewed your comments on our contract template. How nice of you to consider it on the business transaction. Here are our answers.

Terms of payment: Thank you fro accepting our offer.
Therms of trade: We understand the situation well. However, it may be difficult for us to cover both freight and insurance costs as the destinations are far away being Europe and Japan. Please give us some time.
Please take your time to consider the number of bottles.
Regards,
Lisa

Hi Lisa. I appreciate your effort. If it's difficult for you to bear both the freight and insurance costs, let's discuss it again to find a mutually acceptable compromise. There's always a solution to every problem.

What does Lisa empathize with as a descendant of the founder?

-As a descendant of the founding family I share the idea of taking care of the ancestral land.

From what perspective is Mr. Mikau saying he names things?

- They name their products from the perspective of ethnic and cultural heritage not from the ideas of making them easier to sell.

As a descendant of the founding family I share the idea of taking care of the ancestral land.

-It's an important point. Just like the history and traditions of WCS. We have our own identity and stories to tell.

-That's exactly what we're looking for. You said that even the name of a single wine is considered from many different angles.

-That's right. Whith the trend towards diversity we're seeing more and more products with Maui names not just for wine but we name our products from the perspective of ethnic and cultural heritage not from the ideas of making them easier to sell.

-That's a way of thinking you find in European and Japanese culture too. If we were allowed to market you wines, we guarantee that we would recommed them to our valued private customers keeping your life philosophy in mind.

What a connection the Maui's "kaikiyakitanga" reapresents?

-It describes the deep bond between humans and natural world.

Why did Nikawa satat making wine?

-He noticed that the land he inherited is the for wine making.

---

Let's put my stries aside. What I learned from you is that deep philosophy behind the Maui word, kaikiyakitanga.

What does that mean? I have no clue.
Correct me if I'm wrong, Nikau. It's a word describe that the deep bond between humans and the natural world.  In other words, humans are part of nature.

-That's a perfect exlanation, Lisa. I'm pleased you remember it. Our wine making is also based on that philosophy.

-Sorry to interrupt, but Maui have traditionally engaged in dairy and pasture farming. What made you decide to embark on wine making?

-Wine makig are risky business. But I realize one day that the land rain we're inherited from our ancestors was in a viticulture layer that produces excellent wines. So it was an obvious choice to embark on natural wine making as a way of respecting nature.

I hope you all enjoyed the wine tasting.
-This was the first time I tased a natural wine grown by local Maui. Not extreamely complicated but very pure and aromatic.
-Yes. Sun drench days and cool nithgs result in aroma intensive wines.

-And cool climate with warm summers and mild winters may also have an impact on fravor and aroma.

-Exactly. I don't think there's much more to explain. So here's our restaurant. Please have a seat. We really appreciate your hospitality. The preasure is mine. What did foreign journalist write about when the foreign correspondent club was established?

- They wrote about Japan after the defeat including General MacArthor's occupation policy.

---

What kind of members currently make up two-thirds of the club?

-  They are business people.

---

Could you tell us a bit about the foreign correspondent club of Japan?

-It was first started by General MacArthur when Japan lost the war. The foreign correspondent club started at that time. Becaus it was a place for mostly American journalists who had come to Japan to cover the occupation period and reported back to the news publications. And it was a place for MacArthur, General MacArthur to talk to American journalists about the occupation how he was managing Japan's post-war period. This is where everybody gathered and they listened to these MacArthur's news releases and they wrote the stories from this samall place at the club. We have two kinds of members in the club. We have foreign correspondent that is foreigners who are sent to Japan to write about Japan, report about Japan. Then we also have a category for Japanese journalist who have been abroad. Then we have the majority though, two-thirds of our club are business people. Business people who want to meet with journalists, who want to meet foreign correspondents and give us the news in their compnanies. And so that we can report on what they are doing. What Jpanese companies are doing. So most of them are business people and PR people indoors business companies join the club so that they can meet and talk to us. So we have two kinds of members.

-Sounds like a very open organization.

-Yeah, it's very open. We have at work mostly we have press conferences, so we invite Japanese politicians , business people, authors. All our operations and activities are in English.

On the other hand, meet is used mostly when meeting someone for the first time or to meet someoen for a purpose. Like, I'm meeting him for lunch

PR

Public relations. or PR is a department in most companies or organizations. PR also reffers to the department or representative's activities. PR represantatives help manage the organizaion's reputation and help with promotion. One PR stratety involves havign good relationships with members of the media like at the foreign correspondent club.

press conference

A press conference is where members of the press or media outlet are invited to hear speaker or group of speakers and ask followup questions. However sometimes press conferences contain only statements and sometimes there is only questioning.

---

It was interesting to hear that the club was established after Japan's defeat.

-Compared to national press clubs, are there any differences in the way press conferences are held?

Subject:Thank you.
Dear Oliver,

Thank you for showing us around your winery last week. We were inpressed by the way you see natural wine as a message and we would like to help you to share that messge with the world. As you mentioned, the first thing we need to do is to work out how many bottles we need before we start talking about specific terms and conditions. For our part we would like to start with about three thousand bottles. This figure is calculated based on the demand of the best custmers worldwide. We are confident that we will be able to bring your message to our valued customers at this scale. We would be pleased if you could accommodate our request. In the meantime, Emily thinks we could introduce you to certain investers who may be able to help you scale up without sacrificing quality.

Many thinks.

Hi Lisa,

We're pleased to hear that you share the feelings we put into each bottle. We position this deal as a frist step in building a long term relationship. Considering that the winery produces just fifteen thousand to twenty thousand bottles a year, it's quite a challenge to commit three thousand bottles. How about we do minimum of two thousand bottles and then the rest on a best-efforts basis. It that's acceptable, we would like to work at the specific conditions. As for additional investment, I think that could be a theme for another day. First thing first.
Regards,

Oliver

Why is Oliver feeling stuck?

-They can only do it at current scale.

What does Daniel say is important?

-It's about finding that sweets spots between scale and quality.

---

So with Chateau Hamilton's wines gaining traction, what's next?

- What aspirration do you have for your brand and how can we help?

- Well, we are sort of stuck. We're proud of the quality we've achieved but we can only do it at this scale. We're involved in a whole process from pruning to harvesting, from pressing to bottling but we also see our wine as a sort of activism, a message we want spread to markets we don't have access to. But if we pursue scale at the expense of quality, the message will be widespread but meaningless. What do you think?

-That's a tough one. You need to scale to get the message out but as you say it's about finding that sweet spots between scale and quality.

-I agree. Well, could we taste the wine or your message so to speak

-It might shed some light on what scale we could pursue.

-That's clever. Was the response in line with your expectations?
