ハリーは、高く舞い上がり、弧を描きました。 ホーンテールは、まだハリーの動きを追っていました。 長い首を伸ばし、その上で頭がグルグル回っていました －－－－ このまま続ければ、うまい具合に目を回すことができるかもしれない －－－－ しかし、あまり長くは続けないほうが良いのでした。 さもないと、ホーンテールがまた火を吐くかもしれないのでした －－－－

Harry plummeted just as the Horntail opened its mouth, but this time he was less lucky ― he missed the flames, but the tail came whipping up to meet him instead, and as he swerved to the left, one of the long spikes grazed his shoulder, ripping his robes ―
ハリーは、ホーンテールが口を開けたとたんに、急降下しました。 しかし、今度はそううまくは行きませんでした －－－－ 炎はかわしましたが、かわりに尻尾が鞭のように飛んできて、ハリーを狙いました。 ハリーが左に逸れて尾をかわしたとき、長い棘が一本、ハリーの肩をかすめ、上衣（ローブ）を引き裂きました －－－－
