In cooperation with people in communities and related organizations, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Local Nuclear Emergency Response Headquarters of the Cabinet Office have been preparing and publicizing publicity video clips concerning Fukushima since FY2016 to broadly convey the current situation of Fukushima to people both inside and outside Japan. METI hereby announces that a new video clip has been completed titled Fukushima Today – Spring 2017 –, showing the efforts made up to the end of 2016, as well as latest information on the progress and current situations in Fukushima Prefecture.

Since the occurrence of the Great East Japan Earthquake and the following nuclear accident in the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station on March 11, 2011, Japan has been advancing efforts for the reconstruction of the affected areas in Fukushima Prefecture, including decontamination of the affected areas, measures for the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, tackling contaminated water from the station, further lifting of the evacuation orders from the designated areas, ensuring the safety of agricultural products harvested in Fukushima, and resumption of business.

The video clip will concisely convey information on Fukushima today from a variety of perspectives, including: the current situation of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, progress in a variety of measures for decommissioning, improving the working environment at the site of decommissioning, the current situation of living environments and reconstruction of the affected areas, and securing the safety of food.

METI and the Headquarters will make efforts for the further utilization of the video clip and, through this, endeavor to consolidate the conveyance of information on Japan’s efforts for reconstructing the affected areas to people both inside and outside Japan and to raise public understanding of these areas.
