テーマ:ブログA TEENAGER who lived rough in a rat-infested building in Cromwell was yesterday given a chance in the Alexandra District Court to turn his life around.
Fletcher Christian Dennis, 18, appeared before Judge Stephen O'Driscoll to face 12 charges - two thefts, failing to stop, dangerous driving, three charges EDOX Replica of intentional damage, entering a building without authority and four charges of being found without excuse in an enclosed yard, between February and June last year.
Judge O'Driscoll granted a discharge without conviction on all charges and cancelled a disqualification from driving.
Dennis, who thanked his lawyer and Judge O'Driscoll for his consideration, told the court "you won't see me again".
Judge O'Driscoll said he had taken an interest in the case a year ago when the defendant's lawyer, Tim Cadogan, asked for a discharge without conviction.
Mr Cadogan said when he first met his client three years ago the "abandoned" teenager was living rough in a rat-infested building.
The offending was out of desperation but the teenager was taken into care and had potential, he said.
Twin Barrels Watch He was enrolled with the Southern Institute of Technology and had ambitions to join the Royal New Zealand Air Force, the court was told.
The defendant was given a chance to prove he could remain in the community without offending, attending a Limited Services Volunteers course.
Glowing reports from the LSV and other references were available, the court was told.

Because of the number and nature of charges it was unusual to consider discharge without conviction and he would be bitterly disappointed if the teenager reappeared in court, he said.
"Hopefully you can look back on today and say you were given a chance to take an advantage.
"I wish you all the best for the future and hope you progress without offending," Judge O'Driscoll said.
