Immigrant gang preys on unwary

AN Eastern European gang of pickpockets is targeting vulnerable pensioners doing their shopping.
Police in Perth issued a warning yesterday to all OAPs to be on their guard.
A spokesman said: 'The group enter supermarkets or busy shops, where they single out elderly women who have their handbag over their shoulder or within a shopping trolley.

'A second member of the group will then reach into the handbag and remove the purse. A third member of the group will remain nearby to alert the group to the movements of security or store staff.' The pensioner victims are not usually aware of the theft until they go to the checkout to pay for their shopping.
Detective Constable Mark Stephen added: 'My advice to shoppers is to keep your purse on your person and be aware of this type of distraction theft.
