“Red Spanish Varietal over £10” in the Decanter magazine awards
Agustín Santolaya received the award in London during the Decanter World Wine Awards 2011, in the presence of the most influential persons of the sector in Great Britain
Haro, September, 2011 – Agustín Santolaya, General Manager of Bodegas Roda, received last Wednesday in London the International Trophy award in the category of the best wine of red Spanish varietal over £10, awarded to RODA 2006 in the 25th edition of the awards of the British magazine Decanter.
RODA 2006 had won a “Regional Trophy” in the category “Red Spanish Varietal over £10” and Santolaya was to receive this trophy. As well, all the winners in the different regional categories applied for the esteemed “International Trophy”, whose winners were communicated during the dinner, and the wine of Bodegas Roda was the winner of the International Trophy in its category, being therefore thebest international wine elaborated with Spanish varieties.
The presentation took place on Wednesday the 7th of September in the Royal Opera House of London during the dinner in the presence of 400 persons, among them were the most influential persons of the wine sector in Great Britain, such as importers, wine-producers, retailers, as well as the national and international press. In this edition of the Decanter awards, 12.254 wines from the world have been selected, from these wines 237 have been awarded with “Gold Medals” and 118 with “Regional Trophy”, among them were chosen the 25 International Trophies, winning in its category RODA 2006.
RODA 2006 (97% tempranillo and 3% graciano) is a wine that is characterized by the balance and the elegance. Of a red cherry colour at the bottom, in nose it is perceived aromas easily, very fruity, in the line of the red fruits, especially cherry. Deep wine with a creamy sensation on nose, slightly spicy and fresh, with the oaky very well integrated. It results a full wine on palate and has a very fine texture, with ripe and fine tannins. It provides sensations of red fruit, complex and slightly spicy. Finally, it is long, very fresh with a very pleasant finish, that provides sensation of fullness, freshness and elegance and it is perceived a perfect integration between the oaky and the fruit. A wine that invites us to taste it again and again and which combines perfectly with a great variety of fishes and meats.
Bodegas Roda
It is now one of the most representative wineries of the Rioja Alta, its innovative vision and its philosophy of work, it has placed in the first rank of the best wines of the world. It was the last winery to arrive to the Barrio de la Estación, when it seemed that everything was done.
