今日バレンタインデー、
皆様の職場でもチョコの美味し～～い香りが
漂っていることでしょう。
Today is St. Valentine's day, here in Japan
girls ought to offer chocolate gift to boys she loves


弊社株式会社三協リールでも
男子社員の日頃のお仕事ぶりをねぎらって
女子社員からプレゼントが渡されています。
then in many enterprises, female employees give a piece of chocolate
to male employees to show their thankfulness of daily cooperation.




日頃からコミュニケーションが取れている間柄でも
ちょっとした贈り物って心があったまりますね
a small gift gives good atmosphere in working place
even we communicate each other well usually.

ただ、バレンタイン＝チョコ　
という図式は御存じのように
日本のメーカーの完全な「しかけ」でもあるので
踊らされているようでナットクできない、
・・・という人も多いのではないでしょうか。

but it is also true that Japanese Valentine's day is
chocolate maker's marketing strategy to promote chocolates so
there are many people who are not satisfied with such
stupid custom.

かくいう当方もその一人です
i agree with their opinion in a sense.

メーカーの策略、という前に
今日、チョコレートがこれほど安く手に入るのも
ヨーロッパ各国が行った植民地政策と奴隷制の歴史が背景にあること。
because... besides chocolate makers promotion,
we can afford chocolate with cheap price
due to the long history of colonialism and slavery
of European countries.

多くの原産地があるアフリカ大陸の農場では
一日中働いて原料であるカカオを収穫している子供たちにとって
じつはチョコレートなんて一度も食べたことのないぜいたく品であること。
In the majority of countries in African continent, where they grow chocolate material,
many children work all day long to harvest cacao,
they even don't know how is the taste of chocolate as it is too expensive for them.

そうしたことを考えると、まるで搾取に加担しているようで、
自分がとても罪深いことをしているような気になってしまうのは
当方だけでしょうか。。。。
when we think about it,
i cannot help hating myself, feeling as if i, myself am
cooperating for exploitation in the third world.


義理チョコだ本命だと騒ぐのもいいのですが、
この日ばかりは

世界の途上国のプランテーションで
不当に安い賃金で働かされている子供たちのことを思ってアクションする。
i would like to propose, to think over the children in African countries
who are obliged to work at cacao plantation on St. Valentine's day.

バレンタインがいつか、
そんな日になってくれないかなぁと・・・・
ひそかに願っています。
i really hope some day, St. Valentine's day will be more worthy day,,
to act for the world.
