East Asian Foods Matters
テーマ:perspectiveSo it is disappointing that foods coming from China is causing so much trouble in Japan, right now.
But watching the TV news, I was puzzled.
Isn't the exact date of production of the toxined product clear on the package? If so, why the news does not stress the point that consumers should not eat the product made on that exact date? Why should they make consumers unnecessarily anxious by making the atomosphere that all of Chinese foods are bad? If it is not clear, why not? Should not the provider be responsible for informing the consumers about the date of production? I felt that news were missing the point of protecting consumers' safety.
It is true that there has been a rumour that frozen foods from China are using too much chemicals, and I was fearing about it. I avoid buying foods from China. But I also avoid buying foods from any other countries. I sort of trust foods from NZ, without a reason. They seem nice, that's all. Oh, I also buy cheeses from France. How can I avoid them? I am not reasonable in this sense at all.
But I think what consumers really would like to know in the case of toxic 餃子 is the clear indication of the product that we need to avoid. It should not be "ALL OF CHINESE FOODS". It is a wrong message.
Sending a wrong message is I think ALWAYS a wrongdoing for media.
And I think, mocking かっぱえびせん is a wrongdoing too.
Calbee should do something about it, really.
