Finland Will Become the First Country in the World to Get Rid of All School Subjects
QT:
Instead of individual subjects, students will study events and phenomena in an interdisciplinary format. For example, the Second World War will be examined from the perspective of history, geography, and math. And by taking the course ”Working in a Cafe," students will absorb a whole body of knowledge about the English language, economics, and communication skills.
Salt making from local sea water, successfully and playfully completed by そっか members and friends!! We sent off groups of local children to harvest locally grown food. Fishes from rivers and ocean for grill, wild edible plants for tempura, oranges and permissions for dessert, and many more home made delicious food using local ingredients... What a celebration, what an extravagance!!
Sokka is organizing a harvest festival on Nov 3rd. Starting from making our own salt from the water of local Zushi Beach, we will have a BBQ with locally gathered food. Contact us if interested!!
Edible Schoolyard x Jiyu Gakien. Too much positive energy received and don't know how to work on it. A memorable evening…
Oh and look how real their school lunch is!! Eggs are from the chickens of Elementary children, spinach grown by kindergarten children, sweet potatoes are from the garden of their highschool boys, and ume-boshi made by college girls... And #jiyugakuen, you have been doing this for 90 years?! Simply incredible.
Building a fire with tall goldenrod and hemp strings... This is the #trackerschool way!! Enjoyed my first charcoal digging, too. Working on fire and making something from scratch with a knife - fun and philosophical work.
My friend's project #farmcanning is a delicious solution to the food waste issue. She buys all the mulshaped and overproduced veggies and fruits from organic farmers and make them into beautiful jars of preserved food. Her latest works are "Madam KAKI(persimmon)" and "SHISO Dayori(Hearing from Japanese basil)"... Too good to be true!!
My dear friend Emiko Ichinose, who did a wonderful interpreting job mainly at the indigenous people's gatherings at Terra Madre 2016, shared their wisdom. Please take a look at the movie of Indigenous Terra Madre 2015 - yes, the wisdom is all there. Let's learn more and put them into practice. Wish I can join them sometime in the near future.
I was honored to be a part of “Rethinking School Canteen” forum at #terramadre2016 along with speakers from different parts of the world. Inspired so much from everyone of the speakers and now determined to do what I can to make a positive shift in school lunch. Loving the idea of making school lunch an academic subject. Yes, children should get credit for eating good, clean, and fair food.
The Garden Revolution - A talk by Alice Waters, Ron Finley, and Edward Mukiibi at Teatro Carignano was absolutely amazing... I love #Slowfoodmovement and #EdibleSchoolyard!!
