As(= at the same time) and as (= because)

As = at the same time as


You can use as when two things happen at the same time:



We all waved good-bye to Saya as she drove away.

(we waved and she drove away at the same time.)


Can u turn off the light as u go out,plz?



Or u can say that something happened as u were doing somwthing else

(in the middle of doing something else):


Jill slipped as she was getting off the bus.


We met Paul as we were leaving the hotel.



You can also use just as (=exactly at that moment):


Just as I sat down,the phone rang.


I had to leave just as the conversation was getting interesting.



We also use as when two things happen together in a longer period of time:



As the day went on,the weather got worse.


I began to enjoy the job more as I got used to it.



As = because


As sometimes means "because":



As it was a national holiday last Thursday,all the banks were closed.

(=because it was a national holiday.)


We also use since in this way:

-Kanji have 2 or 3 reading ways.


波 川(kawa/gawa)


水(mizu/sui) = water 水が飲みたい。(mizu ga nomitai.)=(wanna drink water.)

ビックリマークwe don't say "I wanna~"cuz we can understand who want to~.

水曜日にサッカーの試合がある。(sui youbi ni sakka- no shiai ga aru.)

(I have a soccer game on Wednesday.)


火(hi/bi/ka) = a fire 火事(kaji)=a fire 炎(honoo)= a fire

ビックリマークwe have so many same meaning different words.and

differant meaning same reading words.


富士山 山(yama/san) = a mountain 山火事(yama kaji)= a forest fire on a mountain.
