After working for Vogue & Bazaar in N.Y.C. as make-up artist/expert, Maxine arrived in Tokyo in the 70's and soon become one of The
Fashion/Style Directors that
transformed Tokyo into the center of Avante Garde Fashion by the 80's. She did the make-up for Issey
Miyake's first show in Japan, directed over 400 fashion shows for Hanae
Mori couture world wide, and styled everything from Parco, Shiseido, hip advertising campaigns and
Ryukotsushin, she also edited
magazines and created new ones.
Maxine directed Armani, Karl
Lagerfeld, Vivienne Westwood and
many others for the Best Five
Fashion shows, produced every year by WWD & Hanae Mori in Tokyo.
Maxine was style director for
Christian Dior Advertising &
Catalogues in Japan for 8 years. She created the look of Miss Dior in
Japan. Maxine built an international network of designers, celebrities
hair/make up artists and super models, with whom she worked. Married to Hiroyuki Arakawa, one of Tokyo’s
premier photographers, they have a daughter, ELLI-ROSE who is a model and famous DJ. Maxine loves and
supports all women’s efforts to be
who they want to be. She helps then to achieve it, anyway she can.
