In two weeks I turn 23.
23 seems to be some sort of significant number, and I am feeling that this year might be another year of change for me (last time a drastic change happened to me at 19).

再来週くらいに23才になります。23は特別な数字。今年は何か大きな変化がありそうな予感。。

There's been a huge debate on whether musicians should be doing shows in our usual manner -is it worth using all the electricity? Should we not be feeling sorry for the affected people, and not partying and enjoying ourselves? Shouldn't we be at home with family? Would it be safe to have a lot of people in a crowded live house?

However, I stand to believe that as long as we are aware, i.e. have emergency plans if a big after quake does occur, make the shows start early, use as little electricity as necessary, etc.; then it's something that a lot of people may be needing.

What I mean is... let's get our sad asses off our sofas, turn off the TV, turn out the lights in your house, go outside and take in the fresh air, talk to people, let it out!
Enjoy ourselves and smile, so we can keep our heads up and stay positive!

So I did it.



On Wednesday at Thumb's Up I sang at an event with Leyona and Kohdai. It was a wonderful night. Really something warm, something special.

I sing. It's what I do. I'm alive. I'm safe. I'm thankful everyday. I will stay positive and I am a true believer in the amount of power that music can give to people. If there is someone's heart out there that may be lifted by hearing my music, that's all I need. For this I will keep singing.

水曜日にLeyonaとBridge StyleのKohdaiと歌いました。いろいろとミュージシャンとライブの事で議論がありましたが、歌うたいのワタシはこの今の自分の置かれている状況を見つめ直し改めて感謝し、上を向いて、音楽に宿っているパワーを精一杯人に与えられるようにがんばるしかないと思いました。

日本にとっても、いろいろといい方向に変われる可能性のあるチャンスなんじゃないかなと思う。

これからも上を向いてがんばります。悲しみや悔やみ、そんな気持ちを希望ややる気に変え、今日も明るくポジティブに精一杯生きて、歌って、与えらる事ができるようがんばります！

So, as most of you know there is a situation at our Primary Nuclear Power Plant in Fukushima.

Although right now there are not harmful amounts of radiation being released, we are all constantly fighting the chance that things may go from bad to worse. We won't mention details to try not to increase further panic or worry, but TEPCO has announced that a meltdown cannot be ruled out.

Right now as I am writing this, there is some smoke coming from the 3rd reactor. We are in a living nightmare.

HOWEVER

We are still alive, and safe, and fortunate to have loved ones with us inside a warm home. There are people still suffering without the essential things: food, water, heat, electricity, gasoline...

And most of all, there are people that are right beside the nuclear reactors, risking EVERYTHING to try and save our country.

Please feel free to give comments of support to us, and we will translate and post it up here and on official twitter accounts to hopefully get our people to be as ONE.

I'm here right now watching the news, seeing professional commentators giving these workers a hard time - complaining about the lack of information coming through, blaming certain accidents on workers.

What we really need right now, is for our country to be as one, and to send our prayers and full support for these workers with such brave souls. We cannot waste time fighting over the small things.

See the big picture.

There are a handful of brave souls risking their lives at the front line of battling this situation with the Nuclear Power Plant.

Simple.

Let's show them support. Feel free to comment on this post and I will personally translate them and post them up.

日本語のわかる人はきっと今の原子力発電所の現状を把握できていると思います。今ここに座っていてニュースを見ていて、ニュースキャスターやコメンテーターのコメントに絶句し続けています。

情報が食い違ってしまうのは、もう最前線で戦っている人がそれに手が一杯であれば、しょうがない事。

こんなに少ない人数で、リスクのものすごく高い中、全力尽くしていない人はいない。

そんな事を言っていて、自分でその作業を身代わってできる事ができないなら、ネガティブな言葉を発するのは無駄な時間。だったら応援の言葉やエールを送りたい。

事はシンプル。

今日本中の未来を抱えて、すべてを背負って最前線で尽くしている作業員がいる。

ワタシはみんなの気持ちを一つにして気でも、言葉でも、エールでもなんでも送ってあげたい。

昨日NYで夜中地震の事を友人からのViber経由の電話で知ってからショックと恐怖で涙が止まらず。そして家族の安全を確認後は余震が終わる事、そして電気のない家庭へ電気の普及を、家がない人々に屋根を祈りながらの14時間のフライト。

仙台上空で親切な機内アナウンスが。

みんなで譲り合い、津波や火事の影響を上空から目の当たりにしました。

ちょうど宮城県周辺を３８km上空から見ていたのは大体昨日の16時頃。



火事、洪水。。






そしてたぶん右下の黒い煙(すごく大きなモノの一部しか写っていない)は石油が燃えているものじゃないかと思う。

本当に大変な事態になっていてびっくりでした。

みんなできる事をしようね！

ワタシの今作ったスローガンは：If you're safe - do not waste!

安全ならば無駄をしない！(節電は今すぐできることだからね！)

いろいろとtwitterを読んでいたけれど、日本はやっぱり素敵な国だね。

2011年Pre-series第1弾は、最初に相応しくTOKYOの音楽シーンの特長的インターナショナル・コンシャスな出演者を揃えました。また当日会場ではTOKYO BOOT UP! Tシャツが3名様に当たる抽選会もあります。是非のご来場をお待ちします。

We are playing at a TBU! event 3/31 with a bunch of international bands! Here are some details of each band!

★ACTS:
◆WATANABES（ワタナベズ）
イギリス、ニュージーランド、スウェーデン、日本からメンバーが集まり、東京を拠点に活動するインディーロックバンド。なぜか愛媛で結成され2009年8月に上京しデビューアルバムをリリース。BelleやSebastian、Teenage Fan Clubなどに例えられた。 グラスゴーの音楽プロデューサーのデビッド・ノートンを迎え制作されたセカンドアルバム『You’re dancing I’m absorbed』を2011年2月にリリース。
The Watanabes are a Tokyo based indie rock band with members from the UK, New Zealand, Sweden and Japan. After beginning life in rural Ehime, the band moved to Tokyo and released their debut album in August 2009. Their sound drew comparisons to bands such as Belle and Sebastian and Teenage Fan Club. Shortly afterwards they began working with Glaswegian music producer David Naughton and in February 2011 they released their second full album “You’re dancing I’m absorbed”.

◆Sunset Drive（サンセット・ドライブ）
ガレージロック/ブルースにポップなメロディーを乗せた3ピース・バンド。2008年にEP「It’s All You」をセカンドドリップからリリース。リリースツアーでは国内だけでなくヨーロッパツアーを行う。ポーランドでは「Slot Art Festival」のメインステージに出演。2010年には「We’ve Got To Talk」をリリースし、初の全国ツアーとUKツアーを敢行、今話題のフェスティバル「The Great Escape」「Camden Crawl」にも出演。
Sunset Drive is a three piece indie rock band from Tokyo, Japan. The members are 2 part Japanese to 1 part Kiwi. They released their first EP “It’s All You” in 2008, and subsequently toured Europe playing in The UK, France, Poland and The Netherlands. In 2010 they released their second EP “We’ve Got To Talk” and then completed their first full Japan Tour, and again toured the UK, playing at The Great Escape and The Camden Crawl. Their style mixes together energetic indie rock fused withblues riffs and melodic vocals.

◆Mayuka Thais（マユカ タイス）
地球と象をこよなく愛する、サンフランシスコ生まれのシンガー・ソングライター。東京都在住。日米の双方の文化と言語に精通。昼間は美術教師、夜はミュージシャンの顔を持つ。
5歳のとき、コロンビア・ミュージックにて最初のレコーディングを経験する。オーティス芸術デザイン大学卒。（絵画と美術教育専攻）好きなものは、象、青色、美術＆美術史、子供、教育、瞑想、そして歌。理想は、生きるもの全てへの愛と敬意を次世代に伝える事。2010年7月バンド結成、9月TBU!に出場、現在に至る。
Mayuka Thais is a singer songwriter, artist, educator and lover of the planet earth. Born in San Francisco and raised in Tokyo and California, she calls herself a Tokyoite Californian. Since the age of 5, she has been on stage and in the edutainment industry (education+ multi-media entertainment) as a voiceover and recording artist with such clients as Columbia Music Entertainment and NHK Software. When Mayuka sings the audience is captivated by the sweet tone of her voice and the warmth that radiates from within. She is a multi-talented artist who uses her voice, art, and her loving and kind nature to inspire others with her songs about animals, ecology and love.

◆Arisa Safu and the Rovers（アリサ・サフ・アンド・ザ・ローバーズ）
Arisaはボラボラ島の海の底からナイル川の源流、スイスアルプスからアリゾナの砂漠までを旅する小っちゃな地球人。
カナダ留学中に音楽に目覚めバンドに参加。そのバンドが国際バンド合戦にカナダ代表としてロンドン決勝へ。その後アフリカの旅を経て帰国後2009年に自身のバンドArisa Safu and the Roversを結成。その年GBOB大会日本決勝でベストアーティスト賞＆ベストボーカル賞をダブル受賞。翌年、FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2010 GYPSY AVALONステージに立つ。1960～70年代ウェストコーストのにおいがする音、エネルギー溢れるライブは必見！
A Japanese Korean globe-trotter, Arisa Safu is the 22year old lead singer, song writer and Gretch White Falcon player of the band, Arisa Safu and the Rovers.
At 17, she joined Super Goooooood as a sax player. In 2008, the band she was a part of in Montreal became the national champions in the Global Battle of the Bands, and became one of the top 15 bands in the world that year.
In 2009, she started her own band, Arisa Safu and the Rovers, and that year became the 2nd best new band in Japan. Also was awarded Best Artist and Best Vocalist award that year.
In 2010, they released a demo CD. That year, they played the Fuji Rock Festival (a rare occurrence for an unsigned band).
We play the good ol’ rock and roll from the 60s and 70s spiced up with some new Rovers-style!

◆warm noise Inc.（ウォーム・ノイズ・インク）
2009年、02年以来活動を共にする岸川と村越が結成したtoitoitoiをバンド編成にしたwarm noise Inc.を結成。ラジオ企画・アーティスト共作（絵描き）などと共演するなど幅広い分野で活動する。2010年1月自主企画『空間支配はじめましたver.1』を開催。その後月5～6本のペースで精力的にライブ活動を続けている。同年9月TOKYO BOOT UP!に出演し注目を集め、11月CD「内側のこと」、「外側のこと」を発売。2011年4月30日に自主企画『空間支配はじめました ver.3』を開催。独特の世界感とそれに伴う音、視覚的なアプローチでのライブは必見。
Adding drums, bass, percussion, etc. joined toitoitoi (Kishikawa and Murakoshi) to form warm noise Inc. in 2009. Kishikawa’s vocal style magically unites each member’s different musical background. This unique and mysterious quality attracted audiences at Tokyo Boot Up 2010. They will definitely reward your curiosity. Don’t miss them!
